PDP, LP And Several Others Pull Out Of Presidential Collation, Accuse INEC Of Compromise



 The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been accused of compromising the 2023 presidential election held on the 25th of February, 2023.

This is coming after some political parties challenged INEC for not uploading results from polling units across the country before the national collation started in Abuja.

The agent of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dino Melaye and former governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha had challenged the electoral body to attend to their demand.

However, hours after resuming collation and listening to the opinions of party agents, INEC ignored their demands and continued with the collation.

The development saw agents of the PDP, Labour Party (LP) and several others pull out of the presidential collation.

The agents of the political parties threatened to act on their demands, following the decision of INEC to continue with collation.

The Federal Government will be increasing the excise tax on tobacco products from 30 per cent ad-valorem to 50 per cent

The excise duty on tobacco goods will increase from 30% ad-valorem to 50% by the federal government.  Dr. Mangai Malau, head of the federal ministry of health's noncommunicable disease division's tobacco control unit, revealed this on Tuesday, April 18, during the National Tobacco Control Budget Advocates Meeting in Abuja. Malau, who gave a presentation on "Overview of Tobacco Control Funding/Budgeting in Nigeria: Why Tobacco Control Budgeting and Funding?," claimed that the federal government's desire to reduce smoking is reflected in the tax hike.  In addition to saying that taxes must be used to pay for tobacco control, he said that if relevant parties want to address the country's tobacco control problems, they must properly implement tax laws.
