After 800 job applications and 30 failed interviews, woman in China questions point of having a university degree

A university graduate in China applied for more than 800 jobs, but only 30 employers contacted her for an interview.

Sadly, the candidate received no employment offers, which led her to record an emotional outburst that has sparked debate about the nation's hypercompetitive job market and the difficulties experienced by recent grads.

The unidentified woman from Hunan in southern China began the video she posted on the Chinese social media site Douyin by questioning the legitimacy of her degree as well as the purpose of attending college.

The 22-year-old said that in addition to copywriting for her degree, she also studied entrepreneurship, programming, and social studies.

She bemoaned, "So I know a little bit of everything, but in the end, it's, like, I'm not good at anything," and said she later discovered that others who did not go to college had the same skills.

Of the 30 organizations that interviewed her, the woman claimed that a few gave her unpaid internship offers with no assurances of a full-time career following the internship.

She then discussed a close friend of hers who landed a job at a large company in Beijing with a salary of 7,500 yuan (about $1,450) per month.

Although it was a respectable salary for a graduate, she claimed that her friend frequently works until the early hours of the morning and must set aside 2,000 yuan each month to rent a modest apartment. Her pal is available to work at any time, even on days off.

The woman continues by contrasting herself with her younger friends who appear to have made career advancements due to starting their jobs at a younger age.

"Even my managers (are younger). What about me? They started their careers earlier, made connections, and gained experience. She sobbed.

The woman acknowledged that she had been raised with the idea that if she worked hard enough, a respectable job would come her her.

She added that she would not even dare to visit her family for the Chinese New Year because they would constantly push her to get a job and encourage her to work as a teacher or government official.

Her video on Douyin, which has received over 397,000 likes and 91,000 comments, shines light on the difficulties faced by young Chinese graduates who are transitioning into the workforce.

Many online users seemed to identify with her position and urged her to persevere.

One participant asserted that many university courses fail to give pupils the social skills they need.

"When I started working, the first lesson that society taught me was to confess that I'm lousy," a different internet user remarked.

I realized more than 10 years ago that learning a difficult talent is preferable to attending college, someone once said.

Some said that her degree, which was probably in the liberal arts, was the problem, but others countered that persons with degrees in the sciences also encounter challenges in the fiercely competitive employment market.

It was said by other university graduates that they had taken the risk of opening up little food booths, which is nothing to be ashamed of since it is still a job that generates revenue.

In China, 11.5 million graduates from universities and colleges are anticipated this year, increasing the burden on
