Awana was thought to have planned numerous I€D attacks on Operation Hadin Kai soldiers when they were on battle patrols along the main highways connecting Maiduguri with Damboa, Bama with Pulka and Bita, and Banki with the general area of Darajamal.
Zagazola Makama was killed instantly, according to intelligence sources, when a device exploded near Njumia and Arra in the Sambisa forest on March 27.
According to the reports, Awana placed bombs in key locations to strengthen his camp within the Sambisa Forest. Little did he realize, however, that he would fall for his own trap as the device he devised blew him up and crushed his body into pieces.
Over 90 random strikes using IEDs have been carried out in the North East by Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province since 2022. (IED).
Due to increased and ongoing pressure from the Nigerian Army, Air Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, and the combined forces of the Multination Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Niger, Cameroon, and Chad in the LakeChad sub-region, the insurgents turned to using IEDs.
Zagazola continued, "Therefore, the killing of Awana represents a major damage to the operational capability of the Jam'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihd terrorist group.
