Baciro Cande, the head coach of Guinea-Bissau, has fired a volley at the Super Eagles following his team's shocking 1-0 victory over the three-time African champions in Abuja on Friday in a match that served as a qualifier for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
At the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, the Wild Dogs defeated the hosts and favorites 1-0 in one of the biggest upsets in African football as stunned spectators watched yet another dreadful performance by the Eagles under Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro.
Speaking at the press conference after the game, Cande claimed that his team deserved the victory despite the Nigerians' parade of numerous "big names."
We respect all the Nigerian players, but famous people don't play football on the field, thus this triumph belongs to the people of Guinea-Bissau.
The Eagles made numerous scoring opportunities and attempted everything to defeat us, but we deserved to win, stated Cande.
"We are overjoyed with today's (Friday) victory, and the boys played well. The outcome is crucial for both us and the people of Guinea-Bissau.
But Cande acknowledged that his squad was stunned by the outcome.
