CBN approves circulation and use of old N500 and N1000 naira notes days after Supreme court order

 


The distribution and usage of old N500 and N1000 notes have apparently been authorised by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The current Supreme Court order, which extends the expiration date of the existing notes to December 31, 2023, is in compliance with the development.

After the debate over the Central Bank of Nigeria's (CBN) naira redesign policy, which took effect in October of last year, numerous states asked the supreme court to rule in favor of extending the use of the previous N200, N500, and N1,000 notes.
