CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, denies giving Rhodes-Vivour N500 million ahead of Lagos state Governorship election
According to a story published by the Nation today, March 13, the apex bank has issued N500 million in fresh banknotes to support the Labour Party's (LP) campaign in Lagos state. Emefiele is committed to defeating the All Progressives Congress, which is now in power, in the Lagos State governor election on March 18. (APC).
It was discovered that high-level CBN agents in Lagos were responsible for mobilizing the N500 million windfall. "Oga's personal contribution to the seizure of Lagos from Tinubu's influence, now that he has become the president-elect and would be relocating to Abuja," was how it was portrayed.
It was discovered that Emefiele had sought to prevent Tinubu from becoming a contender for president and the next president. According to sources, the cash influx is meant to unfairly favor the Liberation Party's (LP) Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour over the other two leading candidates, incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the APC and Mr. Olajide Adediran of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), whose campaign and mobilization have been severely hampered by the cash crunch brought on by Emefiele's Naira redesign policy.
The "Igbo agenda" to put "our own in Alausa come May 29" is also alleged to be enthusiastically promoted by Emefiele, a Delta North native. According to the report, in part
Isa Abdulmumin, the CBN's acting director of corporate communications, issued a statement today, March 13, in which Emefiele claimed that the allegation was untrue and malicious and that he had never seen Rhodes-Vivour in person or through a proxy. The apex bank mentioned Emefiele's lack of political involvement.
