FG postponed Population Census To May

Lai Mohammed, the minister of information and culture, cited the move of the governorship elections from March 11 to March 18 as the reason for the necessity of the decision.

The National Population Commission will purchase software for use in conducting the National Census in May 2023 with funding approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in the amount of 2.8 billion naira.

The 2023 population and housing census, which had been set for March 29 previously, will now take place in May 2023, according to Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture.

He outlined how the move was necessary as a result of the governorship elections being moved from March 11 to March 18.

The Nigeria Agenda 2050 plan, which aims to increase real GDP growth by 7%, create 165 million new jobs, and reduce the number of people living in poverty to 2.1 million by the year 2050, has also been approved by the FEC.

This occurs around 29 months after President Buhari established the National Steering Committee for the creation of the Nigeria Agenda 2050 and the Medium-Term National Development Plan for 2021 to 2025.

The overarching goal is to elevate Nigeria to Upper Middle-Income Country level by 2050, followed by High-Income Country status.
