Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, a former senator who served the good people of Lagos West during the Third Republic, and the presidential candidate for the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, according to reports circulating on various social media platforms, has been proclaimed the new president.
Following his victory over Peter Gregory Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), Atiku Abubakar, a presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, a presidential candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and other presidential candidates in the 2023 presidential election, he received the most votes.
Nonetheless, civil society organizations and international observers have had a variety of views to the results of the hotly contested polls.
Peter Gregory Obi, the candidate for the Labour Party (LP), has filed a suit at the electoral tribunal accusing the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of rigging the 2023 elections.
According to the PUNCH. The US Government responded to this development by noting that the February 25 presidential elections fell short of Nigerians’ expectations, but that it is a welcome decision for Peter Obi and other aggrieved parties to seek redress in a court of law. This statement was made by US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard.

“In the following days, it will be crucial for the future of this country, and that the constitutionally established mechanism for resolving challenges to the election be allowed to take its course,” Mary Beth Leonard is quoted as saying.
