On April 4, officers from the Adamawa state police command detained a 70-year-old man for allegedly raping two minors in the age range of four and seven at Jimeta's Ajiya Street in the state's Yola North Local Government Area.
Usman Ibrahim, the suspect, is accused of luring the two victims into his room, which was close to the victims, where he took advantage of them while they were traveling to their lesson and had illegal criminal knowledge of them.
The father of the victims reported the event to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Jimeta after seeing the children's peculiar urination pains.
The suspect is a father of three who is now leaving alone after divorcing his wife ten years ago, according to preliminary investigation.
The state police command's spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrest and stated that state commissioner of police, CP Afolabi Babatola, had expressed concern over the unfortunate incident and had ordered the officer in charge of the State CID's Family Support Unit to take over the investigation and ensure thorough prosecution.
The police chief also urged members of the public, in particular parents, to keep an eye out for their children and to report any individuals with strange behavior to the police in order to protect them from criminal elements who are prowling the streets looking for someone to take advantage of.
