Lai Muhammad must be prosecuted over fake news on peter obi: Edwin clark

Chief Edwin Clark, a former Federal Commissioner for Information and South-South Leader, has urged the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, to immediately "prosecute" Lai Mohammed for "spreading fake news against the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi," during the election on February 25.

"LAI MOHAMMED MINISTER OF INFORMATION SHOULD BE PROSECUTED FOR SPREADING FAKE NEWS AGAINST THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE OF LABOUR PARTY MR. PETER GREGORY OBI," was stated in the statement. It has become abundantly clear, according to Clark, who issued a statement today (April 10), that the Minister of Information has "constituted himself to become the mastermind and disseminator of fake news," and Malami's only remaining option is to conduct a thorough investigation into his actions and bring charges against him.

Recall that Mohammed accused Obi of treason last week when speaking to several international media outlets and organisations in Washington, DC, about the 2023 general elections. He informed his audience that by inciting people to violence over the results of the February 25 presidential elections, Obi was encouraging rebellion in Nigeria.

The more regrettable aspect of it is that an innocent stakeholder in the form of Peter Obi, who has not said a word, is being labeled a traitor. Edwin Clarke responded to Mohammed's comment by saying that it is highly hypocritical within government circles today that statements being made to ensure that there is the diligent dispensation of justice with regard to the largely flawed 2023 elections that did not threaten the existence of the country are being tagged as treasonous.

Mohammed brought up the name of Obi, who "has been totally silent on the subject matter if not for the names of those who have been raising this question about interim government," according to the former Federal Commissioner for Information.
