The owner of a noisy cockerel has been warned by a magistrate court in Kano State to sl@ughter it or risk punishment.
Following a complaint from two of the bird owner's neighbors, the judge issued the order on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
They stated that the neighborhood's peace and quiet were disturbed by the bird's noisy, constant crows.
The owner, Isyaku Shu'aibu, was given the command to shoot his bird by the court in Gidan Murtala.
Yusuf Muhammed, one of the plaintiffs, claimed that the cockerel's constant crowing violated his right to a good night's slumber. He was a resident of Kano's metropolis' Ja'en quarters.
Mr. Shu'aibu asked the court to postpone the judgment until Friday, April 7, 2023 while acknowledging his cockerel's propensity for making noisy crows.
He informed the judge that he had purchased the bird to commemorate Good Friday and requested an extension so he could prepare it for a family meal on Holy Saturday.
Shu'aibu was ordered by the judge, Halima Wali, to cage and kill the bird on Friday, or else face a fine from the court.
