According to a statement made on April 3 by LP National Secretary Umar Farouk, the secretariat was sealed by the police with the help of the state administration.
The Imo State Governor's operatives, including thugs and unauthorized police officers from the government house, invaded and occupied the Labour Party's secretariat in Owerri today, Monday, April 3, 2023, according to a statement from the party's national leadership.
Such an unauthorized occupation is comparable to an invasion of the same office on March 15, 2023.
Farouk claimed that in contrast to the March invasion, where the state government failed to provide any explanation for why it took such action against the party, this time the government claimed that the action was being taken in response to a judicial order.
However, to our knowledge, no such Order has yet been issued, he continued. The court or its representatives have not provided us with any Orders. The police officers who are currently in our offices have not even shown us the Order. All of our employees, including authorities, are currently prohibited from entering the secretariat.
The Inspector General of Police's office was contacted about the current situation in the state, and it was verified that the Force was not aware of any security breach in the state that would justify the occupation of our secretariat.
He said the police had told the party that none of their officers or personnel had been assigned to the Labour Party secretariat in Imo state.
Farouk urged party members in the province to remain calm despite the current provocation.
