Fasting may continue :Sultan of Sokoto

Fasting may indeed continue in Nigeria tomorrow, as the moon signaling the end of Ramadan has not been sighted yet, according to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.¹ The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) urged Muslims to look out for the Shawwal crescent on the 29th of Ramadan, and if sighted, Sunday, March 30, 2025, would be declared as the 1st of Shawwal and the day of Idul Fitr.

Interestingly, Saudi Arabia has already confirmed the sighting of the Shawwal crescent and declared that Eid al-Fitr would be observed on Sunday, March 30, 2025. Meanwhile, the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, as public holidays to mark the Eid celebration.
