President Bola Tinubu's proposal to declare an emergency in Rivers State has been granted by the Senate. Following a meeting of MPs behind closed doors, the decision was made on Thursday.
The emergency declaration was also approved by the House of Representatives just hours prior to this vote. The six-month suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and every member of the Rivers State House of Assembly is about to go into effect now that both houses of the National Assembly have supported the action.
Tinubu declared the emergency rule on Tuesday. Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Rtd.), the recently chosen sole administrator, has assumed complete authority over the state's operations. After arriving in Rivers on Thursday, he met behind closed doors with important stakeholders and senior security personnel.
