According to reports, the vigilante members intercepted the truck at Uromi and found some passengers in possession of locally made dane guns. This led to the arrest of some of the armed travelers, but the situation escalated, and the mob attacked and lynched 16 of the travelers.
The Edo State Police Command has condemned the killings and arrested 14 suspects in connection with the incident. The police also rescued 10 of the travelers, with two of them sustaining injuries and receiving treatment at a local hospital.
